"Hi, I'm Jade. I started my two-year Apprenticeship journey in 2014, as a 24/7 IT Support Operator. The role gave me insight into how important IT support is to IAG’s daily operations, as well as providing me with technical IT skills, which I still use in my current role.
During the second year of my Apprenticeship, I was able to build on my communications skills when I was exposed to working on the roll-out of a global check-in system. I also completed a Level Three BTEC and graduated with an Advanced Apprenticeship in IT, Software, Web and Telecoms Professionals.
Following on from my Apprenticeship, I moved to IAG GBS as an IT Trainee within Service Introduction Assurance, later progressing to a Service Management Lead within the same team where I have been for almost 5 years. My knowledge and skills have hugely increased in service transition, validation and testing, and I’ve worked on several transformative group-wide projects, which has given me great exposure across the business. Since the end of my Apprenticeship, I’ve taken on the ownership of processes and have been empowered to challenge existing processes and initiate continual improvement to ensure that the team is working in the most effective way possible. The Apprenticeship Programme has given me far more confidence in my abilities, and I am always pushed to achieve things I never envisioned myself doing.
I have completed both foundation levels in Prince2 and ITIL and am currently mid-way through a four-year Degree Apprenticeship Programme in Digital and Technology Solutions, specialising in IT Consultancy. I can really recommend IAG Tech as a great place to work; there are so many opportunities and you can create the career you want."
"My name is Nicola and I joined British Airways in 2013 as an IT Apprentice working on the 24/7 Operations Support Bridge.
The role involved working shifts to monitor all the British Airways IT systems, including check-in, flight information and customer bookings on BA.com. I really enjoyed the challenge of solving different issues each day. I also studied to broaden my knowledge academically, with the aim to putting these learnings into practice in the workplace.
In 2016, I joined IAG GBS in the Continual Improvement and Innovations Team, where I implemented improvements and drove efficiencies through ITIL processes, gaining great exposure to the Group operating companies. I’m also continuing my studies and am currently working on a Degree Level Apprenticeship to build on my entry Apprenticeship and have been on multiple training courses including Prince2 and ITIL.
I’ve been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to travel to our global locations, including New York, Dublin, Madrid, Krakow and Chennai. My favourite place to visit was Krakow - we were lucky enough to go as a team near Christmas, and after work we visited the Christmas markets in the town centre!
I was delighted to be chosen as the first Digital Executive to the Group CIO (Chief Information Officer) in June 2020. This newly created role is a development role where the management committee identifies a high potential early career individual who is then exposed to experiences that should accelerate their development. The aim is to enable them to move into a leadership position at the end of the 18 months, the duration of the role. I’m really enjoying it and am gaining so much experience through my participation in all leadership and key meetings across the function. I’ve also been given a fantastic opportunity to lead the Change Management stream of our transformation project, in which we are embarking on an exciting journey to become the very best at what we do. It’s teaching me new skills and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. IAG Tech is a great place to grow and build my career."
"Hello, I'm Vickram. After leaving school, I always felt university was the only way to become a professional, however an apprenticeship with IAG Tech changed my mind and opened my eyes. Doing an apprenticeship has allowed me to travel the world, earn a salary, complete my studies, and become an IT Professional.
Having a dedicated mentor really helped my journey at IAG Tech, they were always on hand to answer any of my queries and helped me to ease into the professional world. I work in an exciting environment, and since day one I have been in the position to really make a difference. Throughout the programme I was able to experience working in multiple areas, including airport transformation and revenue management, which allowed me to gain first-hand experience in the business side of IT.
IAG Tech has always been supportive in my education and provided me the opportunity to complete a degree whilst working, this included dedicated days off to fully focus on my studies and access to a range of online resources.
IAG Tech’s apprenticeship scheme was the runway to my career and really allowed me to take-off. I would thoroughly recommend the scheme to anyone. IAG Tech provided me with an environment to develop my knowledge and education, work alongside industry experts and achieve my goals."
